TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa men's tennis team earned a decisive 6-1 victory over the Tulane Green Wave (5-12) Sunday afternoon in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, improving to 10-12 overall in the final stretch of the regular season.
The Golden Hurricane have now won three of their last four matches with two home doubleheaders and a road match at Memphis left to go before the American Athletic Conference Championship (April 17-20).
Tulane was no match for Tulsa in doubles play as the Hurricane sped away with the opening score with 6-1 and 6-2 wins in the top two positions. The doubles point was clinched by junior Luis Felipe Miguel and redshirt sophomore Gus Tettamble at Doubles No. 2, who improved to 12-7 together.
Tulsa rattled off three consecutive singles wins to seal the team win. Sophomore Alex Okonkwo kicked things off with a 6-2, 6-3 victory atop the lineup, cruising to his 20th overall victory this year and fifth win in his last seven matches. Junior Timothy Carlsson Seger followed with a 6-3, 6-1 decision at Singles No. 3 before Miguel clinched the win for Tulsa in a 6-1, 6-3 two-setter over Asaf Friedler in the second position.
The two teams elected to finish out the remaining singles matches. The first to finish in that group was the Green Wave's Vincent Vohl, who escaped freshman Nikola Puntaric in a 7-6 (), 7-5 back-and-forth battle in the four-spot.
The Hurricane would close out the final two courts with long wins from junior Reiya Komagata (7-5, 6-4) in the fifth spot and Tettamble (7-6 (7-5), 5-7, [10-1]) in the No. 6 position. Tettamble was the last to finish as he dominated the 10-point tiebreak between him and Tulane's AJ Mercer, finishing 10-1 after being knotted up at one set all.
The Tulsa men will rematch Oral Roberts (5-12) in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 2, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Case Tennis Center. Then, TU will host Creighton (12-7) and Wichita State (9-9) in a Senior Day doubleheader for the 2025 home finale on Sunday, April 6, at 8 a.m. and noon, respectively.
