Tulsa Women’s Tennis Shuts Out Abilene Christian, 7-0

ABILENE, Texas — The Tulsa women's tennis team got back in the win column Friday with a dominant 7-0 showing at Abilene Christian on the Wildcats' home courts in Abilene, Texas. The Golden Hurricane improved to 11-4 on the season.

Tulsa pulled out decisive victories in two of the three doubles matches, including a 6-2 winner at No. 1 by seniors Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings and a 6-3 victory by senior pair Ana Naranjo Martinez and Mariana Manyoma Velasquez in the second court. The latter pair improved to 19-4 overall and 12-1 in dual matches together.

The Hurricane cleared each of the six singles matches with straight-set wins coming in the first, third, fourth and fifth courts, including a dominant 6-0, 6-1 shutdown by Velasquez in the No. 3 spot.

Hutchings overcame a second-set loss with a 10-8 tiebreak win to finish 7-5, 4-6, [10-8] at the No. 2 position, while sophomore Erin McKenzie came back from down a set in the sixth line to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 to cap the Hurricane's 7-0 sweep of the Wildcats.

The Tulsa women will be on the road for their next five matches, starting with Abilene Christian on Friday, March 7. TU's next home match will be their last of the season as they'll take on UTSA on Saturday, March 29, for Senior Day.
