CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Tulsa's Sara Morefield of Lucas, Texas, won the 3,000m Steeplechase Friday at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Charlotte, earning 10 points for the women's team, setting a new personal best in the process and coming away with the women's team's first all-conference award of the event.

Tulsa also qualified four athletes for Saturday's 800m Final, including one woman and three men.

After two days of competition, the Tulsa men are sixth in standings with 21 points, while Morefield's 10 points lifted the women to 11th overall.

Women
Morefield became the first true freshman to win the 3,000m in Tulsa history when she crossed the line at a career-best mark of 10:19.50, beating out the runner-up by three seconds. She was the projected favorite to win the event as she held the league's top steeplechase mark entering Friday's action.

Junior Billie Rouse took sixth in the 800m, good enough for a spot in Saturday's women's final in the event. She completed the race in 2:10.88.

Men
Taking on all-conference honors and a third-place finish in the men's 3,000m steeplechase was redshirt freshman Luke Birdseye. He crossed the finish line in 9:00.58.

Three of Tulsa's four 800m competitors advanced to the final round with strong finishes on Friday. Leading the way was true freshman Korban Murphy, who took fourth in a personal-best 1:50.78. Freshman Joseph Snyder (1:51.12) took sixth, and sophomore Andrew Lutkenhaus (1:51.16) placed eighth to round out the qualifiers.
