Back on Course: Brandon Wilkins to Guide Men’s Golf Revival

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa has appointed Brandon Wilkins as the head coach of the men's golf program, Vice President and Director of Athletics Justin Moore announced today. Wilkins takes the helm of a program that will restart competitive seasons in fall 2026 and brings with him incredible success as a coach and recruiter at multiple institutions.
"When the decision was made to reinstate the men's golf program, we set out on a national search for a coach who shares our values, who knows the game and the rising generation of stars and one who could quickly put our program into championship contention," said Moore. "Coach Wilkins has a passion for golf, a commitment to developing student-athletes and a vision for the program that aligns perfectly with our goals. He is the right coach at the right time as Tulsa men's golf reemerges onto the national scene, and we are confident that Coach Wilkins will set the foundation for sustained success and inspire a new generation of excellence."
Wilkins comes to Tulsa with a wealth of experience, including spending the past five seasons as associate head coach and director of recruiting at Southern Methodist University. During his tenure at SMU, he helped guide the Mustangs to three NCAA Championship appearances, including back-to-back appearances in the past two years. In 2024, the Mustangs advanced out of the NCAA Regional to the NCAA Championships. During his career, he has helped coach 16 all-conference selections and was a part of six teams that won tournament titles as well as five who made appearances in the NCAA Regional. His accomplishments include mentoring two All-Americans and two student-athletes honored as conference golfers of the year. Notably, he also mentored Mac Meissner, who won the Byron Nelson Award in 2021, the first SMU golfer to receive this prestigious honor.

During the 2024-25 season at SMU, Wilkins coached two All-ACC players, Will Sides and Zachary Kingsland, as well as three Ping All-Region honorees, Sides, Kingsland and Enrique Dimayuga. By the conclusion of the season, the trio of Mustangs was ranked among the top 100 golfers in the nation, with Kingsland leading the way with the highest individual ranking No. 54.
In his first season at SMU, Wilkins played a pivotal role in guiding Noah Goodwin to medalist honors at the NCAA Stillwater Regional. Goodwin subsequently earned the title of 2021 American Conference Player of the Year. His teammate Nathan Petronzio was recognized as the American Conference Freshman of the Year. That season, the Mustangs advanced to the NCAA Championships and finished with the second-best national ranking in school history, No. 18, along with a scoring average of 286.08.
Prior to arriving at SMU, Wilkins spent two seasons at the University of Denver as an assistant coach. In his first year, he helped lead the Pioneers to the 2019 Summit League Championship, which earned the program its first NCAA Regional berth since 2014. He mentored Cal McCoy to win two individual titles, including medalist honors at the Summit League Championship, as McCoy was named Summit League Player of the Year. McCoy improved his position in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, rising from 3,600 to 524, under Wilkins' tutelage.
Wilkins began his coaching career at Abilene Christian University, where he played a pivotal role in transitioning the program from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I. He coached two student-athletes who earned all-conference selections. During his tenure, Wilkins also helped lead the Wildcats to their first team event title at the Division I level.
Wilkins played two seasons of golf at McLennan Community College before transferring to Abilene Christian to complete his college career. He received accolades on the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll during his junior and senior years. A native of Aledo, Texas, he earned a bachelor's of business administration degree in management from ACU in 2016.
