Men's Tennis Earns 2 Wins on Opening Day of Spring Season

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa men's tennis team (0-2) delivered a dominant performance against FGCU (0-4) to start the season off undefeated, sweeping both matches of the day by way of commanding wins in both doubles and singles play.
Match 1 vs FGCU
Tulsa set the tone early by securing the doubles point with wins on all three courts. Calum Jestin and Connor Doig opened doubles play with a 6-4 victory at the top spot, followed by a convincing 6-1 win from Nikita Volonski and Timothy Carlsson Seger in the second slot. Victor Tosetto and Gus Tettamble capped the sweep with a 6-2 result.
The Golden Hurricane carried that momentum into singles, earning straight-set victories across all six courts. Volonski tallied a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1, while Carlsson Seger followed with a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 2. Reiya Komagata, Rueben Fernandez, Tosetto, and Jestin each added wins, as Tulsa clinched the match without dropping a point.
The freshman Fernandez earned his first college win as the match-clinching point for Tulsa.
Match 2 vs FGCU
Tulsa again struck first in doubles, earning the opening point with wins from all three pairs. Volonski and Carlsson Seger claimed a 6-2 win, Jestin and Doig repeated their success with another 6-4 victory, and Tosetto and Tettamble closed doubles play with a 6-4 result.
In singles, Tulsa quickly secured the match behind victories from Gus Tettamble at No. 6 and Ruben Fernandez at No. 2. Carlsson Seger sealed the win with a 6-1, 6-3 decision at the top spot. Several additional matches were left unfinished after Tulsa clinched, as the Hurricane closed the day with another decisive win.
The Golden Hurricane will look to continue their strong start on Monday, Jan. 19, when they host UTRGV and Arkansas for another doubleheader.
