TU Topples Wichita State on the Road, 75-65

2/3/2026 9:11:00 PM | Women's Basketball

WICHITA, Kan. —Tulsa (16-6, 8-2 American) defeated Wichita State (5-18, 2-8 American), 75-65, on the Shockers' home court, overcoming a first-quarter deficit with a strong 21-point second quarter. The Golden Hurricane excelled at the free throw line with 18-of-21 made free throws, shot efficiently from the field at 49% and capitalized on turnovers, scoring 15 points off Wichita State's 18 errors.

The two-headed monster of Hannah Riddick and Mady Cartwright made the biggest impact of the night as Riddick tied her career-high in points with 27 off a career-best 10/12 field goals made. Cartwright cruised to 21 points and went 10/11 from the charity stripe and had a career-high seven assists. It's the fourth time this season she's had 10 or more free throws in a game, and the Golden Hurricane are 5-0 this year when a TU player surpasses that mark.

Jade Clack followed up with 11 points from the floor and tied Riddick for the team-high in rebounds with six apiece.

Clack opened the scoring with a layup assisted by Cartwright at 9:08, setting the tone for a competitive first quarter. Wichita State's Jaila Harding responded with a series of successful plays, including a layup and two three-pointers, contributing significantly to their offense. Despite Tulsa's efforts, including a three-pointer by Haven Fisher at 3:09 to tie the score at 13, the Shockers finished strong. The quarter concluded with Cartwright scoring a layup at the buzzer, bringing the score to 23-16 in favor of the Shockers.

Tulsa overcame a slow start to seize control in the second quarter against Wichita State. Cartwright was instrumental, sinking multiple free throws and capping off the quarter with a three-pointer with 13 seconds remaining, pushing Tulsa's lead to 37-31. Riddick contributed with a layup and successful free throws, while her defensive rebound at the end of the quarter helped maintain the Golden Hurricane's momentum. The Shockers struggled offensively, missing all their three-point attempts and failing to capitalize on second-chance opportunities despite Jaida McDonald's efforts on the boards.

Tulsa and Wichita State matched each other point for point in the third quarter, each scoring 20. Riddick opened the quarter with a layup at 9:45, assisted by Cartwright, setting the tone for Tulsa. Abby Jegede contributed significantly with two three-pointers, including one at 3:48, also assisted by Cartwright, giving Tulsa a slight edge. However, Harding responded with two crucial three-pointers, with one cutting the lead to 49-45 at the 3:10 mark. Despite Tulsa's efforts to maintain their lead through consistent free-throw shooting by Cartwright in the closing minutes, Wichita State kept the game competitive heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Tulsa secured an 18-14 scoring edge to close out the game against Wichita State. Riddick led Tulsa with key contributions, including a layup at the 8:34 mark, assisted by Layla-J Cameron, and a critical three-pointer at 4:45. Wichita State attempted a comeback with Diamond Richardson hitting two free throws early and McDonald providing a layup with 3:49 remaining, assisted by Taya Davis. Despite these efforts, Tulsa maintained their lead with robust defensive plays and efficient scoring, culminating in Clack's fastbreak layup from Cartwright at 1:01 to solidify their victory.

Tulsa returns home next to host UTSA (10-11, 5-5 American) on Saturday, February 7, at 2 p.m. in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
