Tulsa, Oklahoma - Oral Roberts senior Jennette Bolovinos scored a game-high 20 points and junior Kristin Brady added 18 points as the Golden Eagles downed Tulsa, 63-41, at the Mabee Center.
Tulsa (3-7) played without the services of its second-leading scorer and leading rebounder, junior Leela Farr. Farr was sidelined for the second straight game with stress fractures in each of her lower legs. TU was led by the freshmen combination of Becky Heidotten and Kim Chiconas. Both players finished with eight points each, all of which came in the second half. Chiconas was also the leading rebounder for Tulsa with five boards. Senior Athena Pirpich, the third-leading scorer on the team, was held scoreless for the first time this season. TU's 41 total points was the second lowest scoring total for a single game in school history.
Oral Roberts improved to 7-5 overall this season and avenged last season's 78-51 loss to Tulsa at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Brady sparked the Golden Eagles with her perimeter shooting. She finished a perfect 5-of-5 from behind the three-point line. Brady's shooting opened up things in the middle for Bolovinos, who finished 7-of-12 from the field. ORU also held a slim advantage on the boards over TU, 34-31. Tulsa did manage to contain Oral Robert's leading scorer, junior Krista Ragan, to five points, 14.0 below her season average.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead and never looked back. ORU never trailed in the contest and the closest the Golden Hurricane came to cutting into the lead was three points, 11-8, with 12:17 left in the first half. With 7:23 left in the initial period, Oral Roberts ran off a 10-2 run and extended its lead to 33-15 at intermission.
The second half was a mirror image of the first for Tulsa. TU never got its offense going and committed 11 second-half turnovers. ORU capitalized on the turnovers and ran its lead out to the largest of the game, 53-26, with 10:53 remaining in the contest. Chiconas connected on the Hurricane's only three-point basket with :38 left in the game and TU finished just 1-of-11 from behind the arc.
