Tulsa Women's Tennis Falls to Oklahoma State, 4-3

Tulsa, Oklahoma - Tulsa's 34th-ranked women's tennis team suffered just its second loss of the season with a narrow 4-3 setback to instate rival and 26th-ranked Oklahoma State today at the Harwell Tennis Courts on the TU campus.
Tulsa (8-2) began the match with three straight losses in doubles to hand the Cowgirls the all-important doubles point and give OSU (10-3) a 1-0 advantage heading into singles action.
As the two teams settled into singles play, OSU gained a 3-0 lead after Tulsa senior Jennifer DeSpain and junior Jana Sedivec dropped their respective matches at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. Needing just one more point to secure the victory, Oklahoma State looked to have complete control of the match and on the verge of a shutout.
But with their backs against the wall, Tulsa's remaining singles player began to rally. Freshman Mariana Barrios put the Hurricane on the board with her 6-3, 6-4 win over OSU's Ashleigh Dolman at the No. 6 slot. Sophomore Aleksandra Durska pulled TU to within a point when she captured a three-set victory over Dominka Olszewska, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, at the No. 2 singles slot in the lineup.
With two contests remaining and the match on the line, Tulsa sophomore Marjolein van Dongen was on the verge of tying the contest at 3-3. Van Dongen led in the third set of her match with Katia Vasylyeva, but OSU's Maria Phillips pulled out a three-set win over TU junior Bianca Posada, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1, at the top singles spot to wrap up the victory for the Cowgirls. Van Dongen held on to win her match over Vasylyeva, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, at the No. 5 position.
