Tulsa, Oklahoma - The 33rd-ranked and defending Western Athletic Conference champion TCU Horned Frogs swept all six singles matches to hand Tulsa a 6-1 loss today at the Tulsa Southern Tennis Club.
The loss snaps Tulsa's six-match win streak and gives the 28th-ranked Hurricane its first defeat of the season. TU falls to 6-1 overall this season and suffered its first loss at home during the regular season since a 5-4 loss to then 61st-ranked Oklahoma State on March 31, 1999.
TCU improves to 3-2 overall this season and has won its last two meetings against Tulsa. The Horned Frogs downed the Hurricane, 5-3, in the WAC title match last April.
Tulsa began the contest by claiming the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to earn the doubles point. TU's top tandem of senior Jennifer DeSpain and junior Jana Sedivec upped their overall record to 16-5 with an 8-2 win over TCU's Rosa Perez and Saber Pierce.
Tulsa's No. 2 duo of sophomores Aleksandra Durska and Marjolein van Dongen routed the Horned Frogs' combination of Katrin Gaber and Karolina Roubickova, 8-0. TCU held on for an 8-6 decision at the third doubles slot.
After a brief intermission, the two teams returned to the courts for singles play. TCU dominated singles from start to finish and handed the Hurricane its first shutout in singles action since a 9-0 loss at Arkansas last season.
