Hurricane Volleyball Defeats Islanders in Corpus Christi

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball squad earned a split at the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas on Saturday night with a win over the host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-1 (30-22, 28-30, 31-29, 30-22).
Sophomore Dana Weddle led the Hurricane with 14 kills. Fellow sophomores Kristin Bailey and Lindsay Eaves also recorded double-digits in kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Setter Vanessa Thon posted 34 assists as well as a team-high 17 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Junior Nathalia Araujo and freshman Evyn Bandy also recorded 12 digs apiece for the Hurricane.
Tulsa out hit the Islanders .227 to .170, even though TAMU-CC posted more kills than the Hurricane (58-54). TU added to its Western Athletic Conference best total for service aces with 11 more against the Islanders. Tulsa now has 145 aces on the season for a school best 3.09 per game average. The school record for serving aces in a season was set during the 1991 with 206.
