TU Women's Tennis Team Edges Past SMS

Tulsa, Okla. - The Golden Hurricane tennis teams hosted a split double-header Sunday with the women facing Southwest Missouri State at 9:00 am. and the men hosting Michigan at 1:00 p.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at The University of Tulsa.
The women's tennis team, ranked 56th nationally, overcame Southwest Missouri State, 4-3 wining the doubles point to win the dual. The team started out the morning in singles competition, winning at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 spots. Senior Alicia Pillay defeated SMS' Ia Zozrashvili, 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 position while teammate Aleksandra Durska dominated Cassandra Godfrey at the No. 2 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0. Also for Tulsa, freshman Daniela Muscolino knocked off Laura Alvarez, 6-2, 6-4 to tie-up the singles competition.
In doubles play, Tulsa's Pillay and Durska teamed up to overcome SMS' Zozrashvili and Godfrey, 8-2 at the No.1 position, while Mariana Barrios and Muscolino dominated the No. 2 slot with a 8-1 victory over Marta Rubina and Biljana Gakovic sealing a Golden Hurricane victory. The women are now 1-0 in dual play.
