SMU Tops Golden Hurricane in WAC Volleyball Action

Dallas, Texas - Senior Nathalia Araujo posted her fifth double-double of the season on Thursday night as The University of Tulsa volleyball squad lost to SMU in four games, 3-1 (30-19, 25-30, 30-21, 30-21) at the Moody Coliseum in Dallas, Texas.
Araujo led a pair of TU players with double-figure kills with 15 to go along with 19 digs. Junior Kristin Bailey posted 10 kills, while freshman Brie Penaluna just missed a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs. Junior Vanessa Thon posted 41 assists and three serving aces to take over the team lead on the season.
SMU utilized a 64-51 advantage in kills, including four players with double-figure kill performances. Junior Jacky Niederstadt posted a match-high 17 kills to go along with a match-high 23 digs.
The Golden Hurricane returns to action on Saturday with a trip to Ruston, La., to face the Lady Techsters of Louisiana Tech. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start. Tulsa returns to the friendly confines of the Donald W. Reynolds Center next Saturday, Oct. 18, for a 7 p.m. WAC match against Rice.
