Tulsa Defeats 28th-Ranked Wake Forest

Tulsa, Okla. - The 59th-ranked Tulsa women's tennis team defeated 28th-ranked Wake Forest, 4-3 in consolation play at the 2003 USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the University of Wisconsin's A.C. Nielson Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin.
In doubles competition, the Golden Hurricane earned victories in two of the three matches, winning the all-important doubles point. Tulsa's Alicia Pillay and Aleksandra Durska defeated Wake Forest's Karin Coetzee and Aimee Smith, 8-5 in the No. 1 slot, while Tulsa's Timberly Greenly and Zoe Buhagiar teamed up to defeat Wake Forest's Elizabeth Proctor and Alexandra Knight, 8-6 at the No. 3 slot.
TU and Wake Forest split in singles competition, with the Golden Hurricane winning in the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 positions. Pillay, the nation's 20th-ranked player, defeated 62nd-ranked Coetzee, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 in the top slot, while Tulsa's Daniela Muscolino defeated Wake Forest's Proctor, 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 4 position.
Durska, Tulsa's 102nd-ranked singles player, earned her 100th-career victory defeating Danielle Schwartz of Wake Forest, 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 2 slot. She now boasts a 100-35 (.74) record, making her the first women's player to record 100 wins, tying the Tulsa career-wins record held by Nenad Toroman (1996-2000).
A native of Pobiedziska, Poland, Durska is one of the most prolific tennis players to compete at Tulsa. She is a three-time Western Athletic Conference All-Conference singles and doubles team performer. During her career she has helped lead the Golden Hurricane to 53 wins and the school's only NCAA appearance in 2000. Off the court, she was named to the Verizon Academic All-District VI At-Large First Team last season.
