Hurricane Overcomes Abilene Christian, 5-2

Tulsa, Oklahoma - The 47th-ranked Tulsa women's tennis team defeated Abilene Christian, 5-2 on Saturday morning at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on The University of Tulsa campus.
To start off the morning, TU's 48th-ranked doubles tandem, Alicia Pillay and Aleksandra Durska, dominated Sarah Taweel and Colleen Reynolds, 8-1 in the No. 1 slot, but Tiffany Smith and Donata Majauskaite fell 8-3 to Abilene Christian's Lacy Johnson and Kristen Chumley in the No. 3 doubles position. Daniela Muscolino and Zoe Buhagiar netted an 8-4 victory over Rachel Taylor and Summer Beesley, earning Tulsa the lone singles point.
In the singles competition, 19th-ranked Pillay easily dominated Taweel in the first set, posting a 6-0 score, but had to fight back to win 7-5 in the second set. Durska and Muscolino, however, earned easier victories to round out the top-half of the lineup, finishing 6-1, 6-3, and 6-2, 6-2, respectively.
Smith netted the only singles victory in the bottom half of the lineup, netting a 6-4, 6-1 defeat over Taylor at the No. 5 slot. Buhagiar finished her match in a super-tie breaker, but fell 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. Also for the Golden Hurricane Majauskaite fell 6-3, 6-1 to Beesley in the No. 4 position.
The women are in action again tonight, hosting cross-town rival Oral Roberts at 6:00 p.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
