Box Score

Ruston, La. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team won its third Western Athletic Conference match of the season with a 3-0 (30-28, 30-24, 30-20) before a crowd of 189 at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La. Sophomore Joyce Silva led the Hurricane with 17 kills, while freshman Kassiana Urnau also posted double digits with 11 kills. While Urnau recorded her eighth double-double of the season, Silva recorded her 14th double-digit kill performance in 16 matches.

Silva also led the Hurricane with four of the team's eight service aces. TU entered the team leading the WAC in aces, with a 2.12 per game average. Senior Vanessa Thon added 41 assists to go along with her three aces. Urnau also added an ace, giving her a WAC leading 49 aces. She now needs only three aces to break Thon's school record for aces in a season.

The Hurricane defense also stepped in, holding the Lady Techsters to a .102 team hitting percentage, the lowest of a TU opponent during league play. It was the fourth lowest percentage of any TU opponent this season. Junior Evyn Bandy led TU with 22 digs. It was the fourth time this season the Tulsa, Okla., native has posted over 20 digs in a match, all four have come during conference matches.

Tulsa (14-8, 3-7 WAC) guaranteed a winning record for the seventh time in school history and the third time in five seasons. The last time TU finished a five year span with three winning seasons was 1977-81. Tulsa will face SMU on Saturday night at 7 p.m., in Dallas, to cap a five-match road swing. The victory also broke a 5-5 tie in the overall series with the Lady Techsters. The Hurricane returns to the friendly confines of the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Nov. 6 to host UTEP.
