TU Women's Tennis Team Wins Border Battle

Tulsa, Okla. - Tulsa's 49th-ranked women's tennis team netted a 5-2 victory over 67th-ranked Arkansas on Wednesday evening in a "border battle" at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Ilona Somers recorded a 6-2, 6-2 mark over Iliana Pacheco in the No. 3 position.


The Golden Hurricane's (9-4) 42nd-ranked doubles tandem, Daniela Muscolino and Ilona Somers, notched a quick 8-2 victory over Melissa Cornett and Whitney Morton in the No. 1 doubles position. TU's Donata Majauskaite and Lisette Pereira dropped an 8-5 decision in the No. 2 slot, while Zoe Buhagiar and Santie Delport fell, 8-6, in the No. 3 position to give the Razorbacks the doubles point.

In singles action, Tulsa's 61st-ranked Muscolino dominated Megan Ferreira, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 1 slot, but Majauskaite wasn't able to chalk up a victory, falling 6-3, 6-2 to Anna Dybicz. Somers recorded a 6-2, 6-2 mark over Iliana Pacheco in the No. 3 position.

In the bottom half of the lineup, the Golden Hurricane's Pereira tallied a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 4 slot, while Delport netted, a 3-6, 6-4, 2-3 injury default, victory over Simona Arghire in the No. 5 position. Timberly Greenly also recorded a point for Tulsa with her 6-2, 6-4 mark in the No. 6 slot.
