Tulsa Women's Tennis Team Defeats #44 SMU, 4-2

Tulsa, Okla. - The No. 50-ranked University of Tulsa women's tennis posted a 4-2 victory over #44 SMU at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center Sunday, to improve their season record to 3-0.
No. 50-ranked Daniela Muscolino got the Golden Hurricane off to a solid start in the singles competition, as she dropped #72-ranked Jenny Langer, 6-4, 6-1. Carla Zabaleta needed three sets to defeat Allison Leuszler, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. While Timberly Greenly posted a 6-4, 7-6 (6) victory over Lynsie Jones to give the Golden Hurricane the edge in the match. Sophomore Santie Delport was defeated by #90 Svetlana Kouzmenko, 6-2, 6-3.
TU claimed the doubles point with a pair of 8-6 wins by Santie Delport and Lisette Pereira over Jenny Langer and Jennifer Chay and by the duo of Greenly and Kindsay Grimes over Allison Leuszler and Maria Braniecka.
"I am extremely pleased with the ladies efforts today against this tough conference opponent," said head coach Paige McMurray. "Everyone out there contributed in some way and that is what team tennis is about. This is our first ranked win of the season and we hope we have many more to come."
The Golden Hurricane women's tennis team returns to action Friday, February 4, against Arkansas at 6 p.m.
