Tulsa Women's Tennis Team Upset by #65 Arkansas

Freshman Carla Zabaleta posted wins in both doubles and singles as TU falls to regional rival Arkansas.

Tulsa, Okla. - The No. 46-ranked University of Tulsa women's tennis lost a heartbreaker to #65 Arkansas, 4-3, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center Friday, to drop their season record to 3-1. Arkansas improves to 4-0.

In doubles action, #57-ranked Daniela Muscolino and Carla Zabaleta posted an 8-5 decision over Maryori Franco and Karina Ledaja, while Timberly Greenly and Kindsay Grimes defeated Audrey Bordeleau and Yawna Allen, 8-5, to claim the doubles point for The University of Tulsa.

After claiming the doubles point to go ahead 1-0, the Golden Hurricane's duel got very close. Number 54-ranked Daniela Muscolino defeated Vlatka Jovanovic, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Carla Zabaleta posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Yawna Allen. Lisette Pereira dropped her match to #118-ranked Maryori Franco, 6-3, 6-3. Tulsa also had loses by Timberly Greenly and Agostina Santoro to set up a three-set thriller between Santie Delport and Karina Ledaja in the No. 3 ladder position. After dropping the first set, Delport fought back to win the second set 7-6, before dropping the third, 7-5, to give the Lady Razorbacks the 4-3 win.

The Golden Hurricane women's tennis team returns to action Sunday, February 6, against Southwest Missouri State at 12 p.m. noon.
