Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team used a 60-37 advantage in kills to sweep Tulane, 3-0 (30-20, 30-24, 30-28) on Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 130 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The win improves TU to 17-3 on the season and 4-2 in Conference USA play. The Golden Hurricane remains a game behind Houston in the Western Division.
Sophomore Kassiana Urnau led all hitters with 19 kills, while senior Dana Weddle also reached double figures with 10 kills. Weddle also recorded all five service aces for the Golden Hurricane. Junior setter Julia Silva added 45 assists and 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the season. Senior Evyn Wills and junior Amy Meyer contributed 14 and 11 digs, apiece, for the Hurricane as well. Urnau also picked up her 10 double-double with 12 digs.
With a pair of block assists, Weddle also moved into a third-place tie on the all-time chart for TU in that category. The Arlington, Texas native has a team high 12 solo blocks on the season and 48 block assists. For her career, she has 65 solo blocks and 230 block assists for a total of 295 blocks.
For the Green Wave, senior Blair Moon had 11 kills to lead the team. Fellow senior Kelli Dickson, daughter of former Tulsa athletics director Rick Dickson, had 20 assists, while sophomore Lindsey Karlin had a team-high 13 digs.
Tulsa will travel to UCF on Tuesday for a rescheduled match at 7 p.m. Originally, TU and UCF were to face in Orlando, Fla., on Sept. 25th. However, travel delays and airport concerns with Hurricane Rita postponed the match. The Hurricane then returns home for a pair of matches on Friday, Oct. 21 against Memphis and Sunday, Oct. 23 against UAB.
