Houston, Texas - The University of Tulsa volleyball squad set one more first during the 2005 season. The Golden Hurricane defeated Rice, 3-0 (30-20, 30-23, 30-28) for the first time at Autry Court in school history.
Junior Germana Hilario posted a match-high 14 kills, while senior Dana Weddle added 10 kills for the Hurricane. The two teams finsihed with 50 kills apeice, however TU enjoyed a commanding .317-.185 hitting percentage advantage. Sophomore Julia Silva contributed 37 assists and 15 digs for her eighth double-double of the season.
The Owls, the 2005 pre-season favorite to win Conference USA, hit into 25 errors. Tulsa blocked four attacks as a team, while Rice hit 21 unforced errors.
The victory was the first for TU in Houston and the third over the Owls in 21 matches.
Tulsa continues league play with a 1 p.m. contest against Houston on Sunday afternoon at the Athletics/Alumni Center on the UH campus.
