BEAUMONT, Texas - Charles Ramsdell had a team-high 21 points and Brett McDade added 20 points but it wasn't enough as the Golden Hurricane dropped an 86-78 decision against Lamar in front of 3,549 fans at the Montagne Center.
Tulsa fell to 3-5 on the season, while Lamar improved to 6-4.
Lamar jumped out to a 12-2 start, but following a Tulsa timeout the Hurricane out-scored the Cardinals 14-4 to tie the score 16-16 with 11:54 to play in the first half. The game was tied six more times in the first half as there were five lead changes. Tulsa used a 9 to 1 run in the final 1:13 to take a 38-34 halftime lead.
Ramsdell had 15 of his 21 points in the first half while McDade followed with 10.
In the second half the score was tied five more times. Tulsa had its biggest lead of seven points at the 19:22 mark of the second half, 41-34, and also had a five point lead in the second half twice with the final time coming at the 8:37 mark on a McDade three-pointer. Lamar scored the next five points to knot the score at 60.
Tulsa's last lead of the game, 63-62, was at the 6:58 mark, then the Cardinals rattled off the next 10 points to take a 72-63 lead with 4:10 remaining in the contest.
Tulsa used some strategic fouling late and cut the lead to five points, but Lamar converted 12 of its final 14 free throws in the last 1:17 of the game to come out victorious. Lamar's last field goal of the game came with 2:41 left in the contest.
Lamar's leading scorer this year, Alan Daniels, was held to seven points in the first half but scored a game-high 25 points.
Tulsa's Anthony Price added 16 points for the Hurricane, while Darold Crow had 13 points. Ramsdell also had a team-high eight rebounds, followed by McDade with seven boards, while he also had a team-best six aassists.
Tulsa returns home to face Southern University on Monday night. The Jaguars dropped to 1-7 on the season after a loss on Saturday night to the Oklahoma Sooners, but had an impressive 63-47 win last Saturday against an old Tulsa WAC rival Louisiana Tech.
