Tulsa Women's Tennis Defeats Oklahoma State, 6-1

Tulsa, Okla. - The No. 66 ranked University of Tulsa women's tennis team returned to action after 14 days off to defeated in-state rival Oklahoma State, 6-1, Tuesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. TU has beaten ORU, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State this season. The Golden Hurricane improved to 8-10 on the season.
In exciting doubles action, Daniela Muscolino and Carla Zabaleta beat Iryna Tkachenko and Zana Masnic, 8-3. Tiffany Smith and Santie Delport were up 5-3 in their match to Sandra Blajer and Jessica Collins, but lost 9-7. The doubles point came down to the duo of Kindsay Grimes and Lisette Pereira who began their match to Lauren Simmons and Jennifer Poskitt down 2-1. With the score at 8-7, Grimes hit a non-returnable shot to win the match and the doubles point for TU.
In singles, Santie Delport dropped Jessica Collins, 6-2, 6-1. No. 94-ranked Daniela Muscolino posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over No. 97-ranked Iryna Tkachenko.
OSU's Jennifer Poskitt defeated Tiffany Smith, 6-4, 6-3, for the Cowgirls' only point of the match. Kindsay Grimes wrapped up the match for the Golden Hurricane by defeating Sandra Blajer, 7-5, 6-2. Lisette Pereira iced it for Tulsa with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Zana Masnic. Carla Zabaleta added to the TU score with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-2 win over Lauren Simmons.
"We really needed this win for our pride," said Head Coach Paige McMurray. "We haven't played in two weeks and our last two losses were heartbreakers. Anytime that we can beat OU, OSU, and ORU in one season, it is not only positive for your program, but for the university."
TU will host WAC opponent, UTEP, Saturday, April 2 at 11 a.m.
