TU Wins Doubles Point, Loses to Virginia Commonwealth

Tulsa, Okla. - In the last home match of the regular season, the No. 72 ranked Golden Hurricane women's tennis team won the doubles point for the duel but could not keep the momentum going against Virginia Commonwealth, as they lost the match, 6-1. Tulsa ends the regular season with an 11-11 record, VCU improves to 14-6.
TU fought off the Rams to win the doubles point, winning two of three needed matches. VCU's No. 16 ranked doubles team of Olga Borisova and Marianna Yoferova defeated the Tulsa pairing of Daniela Muscolino and Carla Zabaleta, 8-2. Santie Delport and Tiffany Smith beat Vera Petrashevitch and Viktoria Konstantinova, 8-6. The doubles point came down to the number three ladder position match, where senior Lisette Pereira, in her final home match, and Kindsay Grimes rallied to force to the tie-break against Cristina Arribas and Alexa Korotkevich. Pereira and Grimes won in the tiebreak to clinch the doubles point for TU, 9-8 (4).
In singles, the Golden Hurricane bid to upset Virginia Commonwealth was thwarted as the Rams reeled off the next six wins of the duel for the victory. Zabaleta lost to Arribas, 0-6, 4-6. Pereira was defeated by Borisova, 0-6, 3-6. VCU's Konstantiova posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Delport. Muscolino, ranked No. 77 was beaten by No. 74 Yoferova, 7-6, 6-0.
TU will have a short break to prepare for the WAC Tournament, April 21-24 in Honolulu, Hawaii hosted by the University of Hawaii.
