Tulsa, Okla. - Looking to win their fourth straight match, the No. 72 ranked University of Tulsa women's tennis team defeated future Conference USA foe Houston, 4-1 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Tulsa is now 11-10 on the season, while Houston drops to 12-8.

"Houston is a good team that played hard," said Head Coach Paige McMurray. "Winning four in a row is great for us. It gives us momentum heading into the conference tournament in two weeks."

TU started the duel on the outside courts, despite the high wind gusts. Tulsa swept the three doubles matches to win the critical doubles point. The duo of Daniela Muscolino and Carla Zabaleta defeated Biljana Dimovska and Yolandi Terblanche, 8-3. The tandem of Lisette Pereira and Kindsay Grimes dropped Sarah Reimer and Diana Martin, 8-4. The combination of Tiffany Smith and Santie Delport wrapped up the doubles sweep by posting a 9-8 (4) win over Kami Miller and Brianna Bateup.

Despite moving the singles matches inside to avoid the wind gusts, TU continued their dominance. Delport won her first set 6-4, but was trailing 0-3 in the second set before coming back and winning the match, 6-4, 6-4, over Terblanche. No. 77-ranked Muscolino defeated Dimovska, 6-4, 6-1. Zabaleta fought back after losing the first set 6-3, to win the next twelve games to win the match, 3-6, 6-0, 6-0. That win clinched it for the Golden Hurricane. Miller gave Houston its only win of the duel as she beat Timberly Greenly, 7-5, 6-3.

The matches of Lisette Pereira and Kindsay Grimes were not finished.

The Tulsa women close out the regular season at home Sunday as they face No. 48 Virginia Commonwealth at 12 noon. The Rams are 12-6 this season. "Virginia Commonwealth is a good team and a great way for us to close out our season," said McMurray. "All I ask of my team is that they go out and play hard and I think that they can compete with any team out there." Sunday's match will also be the final home tennis match for senior Lisette Pereira.
