Hurricane Tops Eastern Michigan 66-48

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Jamel McLean grabbed a game-high seven rebounds and tallied 14 points, including seven during a second-half surge, to lead Tulsa to a 66-48 victory against Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

McLean hit all six of his field goal attempts and Ray Reese came off the bench to add 10 points for the Golden Hurricane (9-2), who improved to 9-0 at home this season.

Tulsa led 44-42 with 12:46 to play after a field goal by Eastern Michigans Craig Cashen, who finished with eight points. But from there, the Golden Hurricane outscored the Eagles (2-8) by a 22-6 margin to claim the victory.

McLean scored five straight points and sank seven of nine shots during the Golden Hurricanes game-ending surge.

Eastern Michigan, of the Mid-American Conference, scored the games first eight points while shooting 55 percent from the floor in the opening half.

Tulsa did not get on the scoreboard until Reese connected on a 3-pointer with 14:06 remaining before halftime.

With James Matthews pumping in all six of his first-half points, Eastern Michigan extended its lead to 15-5 at the 11:21 mark.

But Ben Uzoh, who had 10 points in the opening half, fueled a Golden Hurricane comeback. His 3-pointer with 7:22 remaining in the half ended a 12-2 Hurricane run and knotted the score at 17.

On Tulsas next possession, Uzoh again scored from beyond the arc as the Golden Hurricane took its first lead, 20-19.

Tulsa would open up a 33-25 advantage before settling for a 34-30 cushion at halftime.

Brandon Bowdry paced the Eagles with nine points and six rebounds, both team highs.
