Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik:
Opening Statement
"I¹m glad to get the win and kind of move on. We didn¹t play particularly well but we found a way to win, mainly because of Ben Uzoh. We have to get ready for a tough two week stretch now."
On Ben Uzoh¹s ability to take over games
"I would like for him to do that from the start. If there was a knock that I have on Ben, it¹s that he doesn¹t do that enough. He¹s entitled to shots and he¹s entitled to do what he wants to do on the floor. He¹s earned that. We would like to see him do that earlier in the game, instead of waiting until our backs are against the wall."
On heading to UAB next week
"They are probably the biggest surprise team in the league. Mike [Davis] has done a good job and has reloaded with a kid named Elijah Milsap, Howard Crawford is an experienced big man for them and Aaron Johnson is a point guard that can really push the basketball.
"That is a place that we have not won and it will be even more difficult now that they have had such a good season. They have beaten Cincinnati and Butler at home, but they have a tough game tonight at Marshall. It¹s a huge conference game where you only have them once and on the road, and they become a big tiebreaker game in the conference standings."
Tulsa Senior Ben Uzoh
On the tempo of the game
"It was real tough to find some energy tonight. We got off to an average, slow start. I think those plays that I had, that sequence in the second half got the crowd into it and got us going. We really needed it."
On his play
"I definitely needed to do that for us. We kind of struggled defensively. It was just really lethargic, and that got us going a little bit. There¹s no reason or excuse for it. It¹s too late in the season to not bring it. We definitely have to bounce back."
On his dunks in the second half
"I was just going to go right at him and put him on his heels. I saw he backed up a bit too far and I just decided to go for it. I snuck it in I guess."
Tulsa Freshman Donte Medder
On his play for the team
"Coach always says during practice that freshman are supposed to be instant energy for the team, like a sparkplug off the bench. I guess I finally understood what he meant, and I did that today."
On his career night and its effect on his confidence
"I don¹t think I really needed it, cause¹ we¹re still winning, It doesn¹t matter if I¹m playing well if we¹re still winning."
On learning from Ben Uzoh
"Ben has helped me with everything, from getting adjusted here from day one to little things on the court. Every time I¹m going to the sideline he tells me something new, and I think he just helped me along."
