Positive Results Highlight Day One Of Notre Dame Invite

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The University of Tulsa women's tennis team kicked off the Notre Dame Invitational with numerous positive results Friday.
Juniors Anastasia Erofeeva and Ewa Szatkowska both advanced to the semifinals of the Gold Singles Main Draw with two victories each. Erofeeva defeated Maureen Stevens of Dayton 6-2, 6-1 and Cara Wild of Miami 6-0, 6-0. Szatkowska dropped Akron's Anya Baronayte 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) and took down Sara Lazarevic of Kansas 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6).
The two juniors hooked up in doubles action and moved into the semis with an 8-3 win over Loni Dickerhoff and Laina Grote of Dayton.
In the Blue Singles Main Draw, senior Jo-Anne Karaitiana began play with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Fidan Manahirova of Ohio State. Karaitiana lost in the quarterfinals 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) to Chrissie McGaffigan of Notre Dame.
Senior Alexandra Kichoutkin lost her first match to Anastasia Dracheva of Miamia 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. She rebounded in the consolation bracket with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Dickerhoff.
Kichoutkin and Karaitiana competed in doubles action and advanced to the semifinals with an 8-5 win over Angelika Jogasuria and Prang Pantusart of Akron.
All four members of the Golden Hurricane will compete Saturday in South Bend.
