FORT WAYNE, Ind. - In Saturday's second match, Tulsa fell, 3-0, to Saint Louis (19-25, 21-25, 23-25).
The Golden Hurricane hit .187 (38-15-123) with 38 kills, 37 assists, 54 digs and 4.0 blocks. The Billikens hit .300 (49-13-120) with 49 kills, 46 assists, 63 digs and 7.0 blocks.
Tyler Henderson recorded 21 kills and hit .347 in the match, while Jessica Adams added 17 digs and Jordan Clampitt had 37 assists. Senior middle blocker Hannah Stout hit .471 with nine kills.
Saint Louis took a 6-0 lead to open the first set, and extended the lead to 18-7. Tulsa, however, was not finished and scored nine straight points on the strength of Diana Silva's serving and five kills by Stout to pull within two points at 18-16. But the Billikens held onto the lead and took a six-point set win, 25-19.
Tulsa and Saint Louis traded the lead to begin set two, and from a 10-10 knot, the Golden Hurricane scored three straight to move ahead, 13-10. SLU scored eight of the next nine to push past TU and take an 18-14 lead that it would not relinquish, winning the set, 25-21.
The third set went back-and-forth all the way, with 11 ties and six lead changes. Tulsa's largest lead was three points, on three occasions, but Saint Louis took over the lead for the final time after a 19-19 tie, and won the set, 25-23.
The Golden Hurricane returns to action next weekend at the 2010 Asics Challenge in San Francisco. TU opens the tournament Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT against Washington State. The Hurricane plays twice Saturday, against San Francisco at 2 p.m. CT and against UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. CT.
