TU Captures 4 Titles in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Sophomore Meredith Burns won both a singles and doubles title, and two other championships were captured by the University of Tulsa women's tennis team on the final day of the String `n Swing Memphis Collegiate Invitational Sunday.
Burns won the B1 Singles crown with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Emily Conrad of Abilene Christian. She teamed up with junior Caroline Beaulieu to win the A2 Doubles draw with an 8-5 victory over Tulane's Hila Elster and Liz Hamlin.
Sophomore Michelle Farley secured the A3 Singles title with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Hamlin, and junior Anastasia Erofeeva and Ewa Szatkowska teamed up to win the A1 Doubles Draw championship 8-5 over Mariam Kurdadze and Emma Levy of the Green Wave.
In other action, Erofeeva lost in the semifinals of A1 Singles to Courtney Collins of Memphis, who went on to win the title. Erofeeva posted a 6-3, 6-2 consolation victory over Kurdadze 6-3, 6-2.
Szatkowska lost in the A2 Singles championship match 6-1, 6-3 to Vivan Vlaar of Ole Miss.
Junior Bonny Davidson fell 6-1, 6-3 to Katerina Gresova of Georgia State in the A4 Singles consolation championship.
Beaulieu advanced to the A5 Singles championship, but lost to Micah Hermsdorf 6-3, 6-3.
Freshman Anamaria Candanoza lost in the semifinals of the B2 Singles draw, but defeated Carlina Jow of Lipscomb 6-4, 6-3 in her consolation match.
The doubles team of Farley and Davidson won the consolation title of B1 Doubles with an 8-0 victory over Natalia Nunez and Abby Hogan of Belmont.
Seniors Jo-Anne Karaitiana and Alexandra Kichoutkin were competing in the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas. The doubles team was seeded No. 1 overall, but they fell in the round of 16.
Karaitiana defeated Ana Guzman of Rice 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals, but lost 6-1, 6-4 in the championship match to Julia Mongin of Abilene Christian.
The Golden Hurricane will now join together and travel to Norman, Okla., for the Oklahoma Invite Sept. 24-26.
