"We knew this game was going to be a tough game, but we battled it out for the win," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We will start to prepare for Akron tomorrow. Obviously it is going to be difficult game, but one we are looking forward to. We are going to get rested first and foremost, as this game was a very physical contest and it is a quick turnaround. We will work out our tactics over the next several days and get ourselves ready to go against Akron."
Neil's goal, his seventh of the season, was earned off an assist from Ashley McInnes. McInnes had attempted a goal seconds earlier that was saved by MSU goalkeeper Alex Riggs, and Neil drilled in the ball off the save.
The Golden Hurricane got down early as Edin Sabic launched a free kick from the midfield line over Ray Clark and into the back of the net at the 13:43 mark. Adrian Klammer recorded the game-equalizer 60 minutes later as he knocked in a cross from Matt Boullt. Neither team could get the go-ahead goal in regulation or the first overtime period, but Neil ended the contest at the 106:20 mark.
Tulsa out-shot the Bears, 17-6, had a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Hurricane also had a 15-4 lead in corner kicks.
Neil, McInnes and Corey Albertson each attempted three shots for TU, while Ray Clark logged 106:20 in goal, allowed one goal and picked up three saves.
