Freshman Moves Into Championship Match With Strong Performance

NORMAN, Okla. - Freshman Anamaria Candanoza of The University of Tulsa women's tennis team recorded two come-from-behind victories to move into the championship match of the Singles D Draw at the Sooner Fall Invitational Saturday.

She first defeated Wichita State's Valerie Brockman 1-6, 7-6 (10-8), 7-5, and then she proceeded to take down Amy Joubert of North Texas 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 to move into the championship match.

She was nearly greeted there by junior teammate Bonny Davidson. Davidson advanced to the semifinals after defeating Brittany Parks of Oklahoma 6-1, 6-1, but she lost to Monika Hadvigerova of University of Texas-Arlington 6-0, 7-6. Hadvigerova will meet Candanoza in the championship match Sunday.

In Singles A, junior Anastasia Erofeeva took down Katarina Milinkovic of Depaul 7-5, 6-1, but she lost in the semifinals to SMU's Marta Lesniak 6-0, 6-2

Junior Caroline Beaulieu moved into the championship match of Singles C Consolation after beating Kelsey Lawson of Depaul 6-0, 6-4 and Valeska Hoath of Portland 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-3.

Sophomore Meredith Burns lost both of her consolation matches in Singles B, falling 6-3, 6-4 to SMU's Heather Steinbauer and 6-1, 7-5 to UALR's Veronique Luksich.

All members of the Golden Hurricane will complete in singles and doubles action Sunday in Norman.
