No. 19 Tennessee Knocks Off No. 22 Tulsa

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 22-ranked University of Tulsa women's tennis team was defeated 4-0 by No. 19 Tennessee Saturday afternoon at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
Tulsa (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season, while the Lady Vols (2-2) advanced to the 16-team ITA National Team Indoor Championship Feb. 10-13 in Charlottesville, Va.
Tennessee won the doubles point and then picked up three singles victories to shut the door on the Golden Hurricane.
The senior duo of Anastasia Erofeeva and Ewa Szatkowska lost 8-4 to Natalie Pluskota and Caitlyn Williams at the top of the doubles lineup. The No. 18-ranked team of Brynn Boren and Sarah Toti were able to squeak by TU's pair of senior Bonny Davidson and Samantha Vickers 8-6 on Court 2.
The third doubles match went unfinished.
Sophomore Maria Sant'Anna fell 6-2, 6-3 to Joanna Henderson at six singles, and No. 27-ranked Boren defeated Szatkowska 6-3, 6-2 from the third court. Toti wrapped up competition with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Davidson at the fifth flight.
Vickers, ranked No. 63 in the nation, was leading No. 59 Kata Szekely 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 when competition was halted. No. 78-ranked Erofeeva also led 6-2, 4-4 over No. 24-ranked Pluskota.
This was the third time in the last four years that TU has advanced to the regional championship match at the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
The Golden Hurricane will face No. 25 Oklahoma at 5 p.m. Feb. 4 at Case Tennis Center.
