Hurricane Rowers Scrimmaged Kansas on Sunday

Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa rowing team scrimmaged Kansas on Sunday morning on the Verdigris River in Catoosa, Okla. The four flights were a shortened 1,500-meters and were at a controlled rating of 30 strokes per minute for all boats.

"It was a really solid day for Tulsa," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "Scrimmages are great for working on different aspects of racing, especially when you can compete with a good team like Kansas. One of the things the team needed to work on was disciplined rowing with power and I thought we made improvements. I like the way our boats are rowing right now, as it bodes well for racing in the future. We appreciate Kansas making the trip and we want to thank all of our friends and families in the Hurricane Nation for supporting us from shore."

Tulsa's Varsity 4+ `A' and `B' boats both earned a first-place mark in the third and fourth flights, respectively. TU's `A' boat was faster in the upstream, while the `B' turned in quicker times downstream.

In the Varsity 8+ races, the Kansas `A' boat captured all four top finishes, but the Hurricane trailed by as little as 0.9 seconds in the second flight and at the most trailed by 5.7 seconds in the first flight.

The Kansas `A' and `B' boats took first and second, while the Tulsa `A' and `B' boats were third and fourth in all Novice/3V/4V 8+ races.

Conditions for the race were a light breeze from the north at less than six miles per hour with rising temperatures from 35 degrees at launch to 45 at the end of the exhibition.
