Women's Tennis Topples UCF, 6-1

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Tulsa women's tennis team picked a 6-1 victory over the UCF Knights, winning its first American Athletic Conference match played this season and its second win on the road overall on Wednesday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex.

The match saw two of the six singles matches pushed to three sets, and seven tiebreakers spread throughout the day.

The Hurricane win moves them to 10-7, 1-0 in conference, while the loss drops the Knights to 7-4, with a 2-3 record in The American.

Tulsa came out strong in doubles play, taking both the two and three positions. Marcelina Cichon and Rongrong Leenabanchong finished first, winning 6-1 over Sofia Baptista and Clare Mendell from the two-spot. Mahitha Dadireddy and Saana Saarteinen finished off the doubles round, topping Cortney Cesarini and Monica Matias, 6-4.

Yelena Nemchen earned TU's next point after she swept Clare Mendell, 6-3, 6-4, in straight sets. Cichon was next in line, earning a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 win over Kennan Johnson from the number three spot.

The match-clincher came by way of Saarteinen from the number five spot, taking a 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) win against Monica Matias.

The two teams played out the rest of the match, where Renata Kuricova won her match, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-6), from the number six spot, and Ksenia Laskutova won, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), in the number two singles match. UCF picked up its lone point in the top singles match, as Caroline Eberhart edged out Leenabanchong in the final match of the day, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 1-0 (10-4).

The Golden Hurricane will close out its road trip in the Sunshine State on Friday, where it will take on the South Florida Bulls (2-9, 0-1 The American) at 1:00 p.m. CT.
