
Tulsa’s No. 23 Women’s Tennis Team Downs College of Charleston, 7-0, Thursday Afternoon

CHARELSTON, S.C. – On Thursday afternoon, The University of Tulsa women's tennis team defeated College of Charleston in a 7-0 decision at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point. The No. 23 Golden Hurricane improves to 15-2 overall, while College of Charleston falls to 12-6 overall.
TU's No. 79 doubles team Rongrong Leenabanchong and Martha Matoula (No. 2) defeated Helena Nyikos and Diana Colen, 6-2, to take a 1-0 double point lead. College of Charleston's Mara Argyiou and Katherine Schofield (No. 1) defeated Ksenia Laskutova and Renata Kuricova in a 6-2 decision to tie the double point at 1-1. With the doubles point on the line, Saana Saarteinen and Mahitha Dadireddy (No. 3) defeated Sarah Zschunke and Liza Fieldsend, 6-4, to take give Tulsa a 1-0 match advantage going into singles play.
The Hurricane dominated singles winning all six matches, and in all of those matches Tulsa won in two sets. Martha Matoula (No. 6) defeated Sarah Jane Jones, 6-1, 6-0, to give TU an early 2-0 match lead. Ksenia Laskutova (No. 2) defeated Katherine Schofield, 6-1, 6-3, before Rongrong Leenabanchong (No. 3) defeated Brooke McAmis, 6-4, 6-4, to clinch the Tulsa match victory. Marcelina Cichon (No. 4) defeated Mara Argyriou, 6-1, 7-5, to extend the Hurricane match lead to 5-0. Renata Kuricova (No. 5) defeated Helena Nyikos, 6-4, 6-2, before Saana Saarteinen (No. 1) defeated Liza Fieldsend, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, to complete the Tulsa singles sweep.
Tulsa returns to the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Friday, March 25, to take on No. 27 Kansas.
