No. 28 Tulsa Women’s Tennis Defeats No. 24 Kansas, 4-2, Friday Night

TULSA, Okla. – On Friday night, The University of Tulsa women's tennis team defeated No. 24 Kansas in a 4-2 decision at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The No. 28 Golden Hurricane improves to 16-2 overall, while Kansas falls to 12-3 overall.
 
Tulsa started doubles play strong as Ksenia Laskutova and Renata Kuricova (No. 1) defeated KU's No. 68 Janet Koch and Nina Khmelnitckaia, 6-2, to take a 1-0 doubles point lead. Kansas bounced back to tie the doubles score at 1-1 as Summer Collins and Maria Jose Cardona (No. 2)  defeated Rongrong Leenabanchong and Martha Matoula in a 6-4 decision. With the doubles point on the line, Anastasiya Rychagova and Smith Hinton (No. 3) defeated Saana Saarteinen and Mahitha Dadireddy, 7-5, to give the Jayhawks a 1-0 match lead going into singles play.
 
The Hurricane battled back to tie the match score at 1-1 in singles play as Ksenia Laskutova (No. 2) of Tulsa defeated Smith Hinton, 6-3, 6-3. KU's No. 96 singles player Anastasiya Rychagova (No. 1) Saana Saarteinen, 6-0, 7-5, to give the Jayhawks a 2-1 match lead. The Hurricane tied the match score back at 2-2 as Martha Matoula (No. 6) defeated Maria Jose Cardona, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Marcelina Cichon (No. 4) defeated Nina Khmelnitckaia, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, to give the Hurricane a late 3-2 match lead. Renata Kuricova (No. 5) went on to defeat Summer Collins, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3, to clinch the Tulsa match victory over the No. 24 Jayhawks.
 
Tulsa travels to Stillwater, Okla., on Tuesday, March 29, to take on in-state rival Oklahoma State at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
