
Tulsa’s No. 27 Men’s Tennis Team Defeats No. 30 Baylor, 4-3, Thursday Night

WACO, Texas – The University of Tulsa men's tennis team defeated No. 30 Baylor in a 4-3 decision Thursday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center. The No. 27 Golden Hurricane improved to 9-8 overall, while Baylor falls to 11-8 overall.
In doubles play, Dylan McCloskey and Dominic Bechard (No. 2) of Tulsa defeated Tommy Podvinski and Maxime Tchoutakian, 6-4, to take a 1-0 double point lead. Julian Lez and Will Little (No. 1) of Baylor defeated Matthew Kirby and Okkie Kellerman in a 7-6 decision tying the doubles score at 1-1. Majed Kilani and Carlos Bautista (No. 3) defeated Felipe Rios and Tyler Stayer in a tight 7-6 decision to give TU a 1-0 match lead going into singles play.
TU's Francois Kellerman (No. 6) defeated Tyler Stayer, 6-4, 6-1, to begin singles play extending the Tulsa match lead to 2-0. Baylor battled back as Jimmy Bendeck (No. 2) defeated Dylan McCloskey, 7-6, 6-0, before No. 66 Maxime Tchoutakian (No. 3) defeated Juan Miatas Gonzalez, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, to tie the match score at 2-2. Majed Kilani (No. 4) defeated Tommy Podvinski, 6-4, 5-7, 6-0, to give Tulsa a late 3-2 match lead. Baylor's No. 20 Julian Lez (No. 1) defeated No. 53 Or-Ram Harel in a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6, decision to tie the match score at 3-3. Carlos Bautista (No. 5) defeated Felipe Rios, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, to clinch the Tulsa match victory over the No. 30 Baylor Bears. The Hurricane defeated No. 42 Dartmouth, 4-3, earlier this week, and today's win over the Bears marks the second time this season it has defeated a ranked opponent in back-to-back matches.
The Hurricane is back in action on Saturday, March 26, when it travels to Austin, Texas, to take on No. 19 Texas at the Westwood Country Club.
