
Tulsa Women’s Tennis Tops 33rd Ranked Arkansas, 4-1, to Advance to Second Round of NCAA Tennis Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. – The 28th ranked University of Tulsa women's tennis team advanced to the NCAA second round with a 4-1 decision over 33rd ranked Arkansas Friday at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State University. The Golden Hurricane (22-4 overall) will take on the winner of 15th ranked Oklahoma State and Alabany on Saturday in second round play. Oklahoma State and Albany play Friday at 1:00 p.m.
Tulsa advances to second round play for the sixth time in its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance.
To begin doubles play, junior Rongrong Leenabanchong and freshman Martha Matoula (No. 2) recorded a 6-2 win over Ana Oparenovic and Mia Jurasic. Arkansas battled back as their 33rd ranked doubles team of Yuliya Lysa and Shannon Hudson (No. 1) defeated Ksenia Laskutova and Renata Kuricova in a 6-2 decision. The Hurricane clinched the doubles point to take a 1-0 match lead going into singles play as senior Saana Saarteinen and junior Mahitha Dadireddy (No. 3) topped Makenzie Craft and Flavia Araujo in a 6-2 decision.
In singles play, junior Marcelina Cichon (No. 4) defeated Makenzie Craft for Tulsa's first singles win, giving Tulsa a 2-0 match lead. Arkansas's lone singles victory came when Mia Jurasic (No. 5) registered a 6-0, 6-4 win over TU senior Renata Kuricova. Tulsa sophomore Ksenia Laskutova (No. 2) topped Arkansas's 79th ranked singles player Ana Oparenovic, 6-4, 6-2, to bring the match score to 3-1. Freshman Martha Matoula (No. 6) recorded a 7-5, 6-1 win over Sasha Shkorupeieva to clinch the Tulsa match victory.
The victory was Tulsa's second over the Razorbacks this season. Tulsa is now 9-4 against nationally ranked opponents this season, and they are a perfect 5-0 when playing on a neutral court.
