Hurricane Set to Host Tulsa Volleyball Invitational

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa Volleyball team is set to host their second and final non-conference tournament of the season, the Tulsa Volleyball Invitational, to be held on Sept. 16-17 in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
The tournament features four teams and six matches, beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday with a doubleheader. For the Saturday matches, volleyball fans are asked to park in the LaFortune Lot off of 8th Street and S. Gary Ave. due to other events happening simultaneously on campus.
Tulsa (8-1 overall) will take on cross-town rival Oral Roberts in their first game of the tournament. The Hurricane are coming off back-to-back weekend tournament titles on their way to winning six straight matches. In their all-time series against ORU, Tulsa trails 20-57, but have won the last seven meetings dating back to the midway point of the 2008 season. Last season, TU swept the Golden Eagles on the road.
The Hurricane meet up with Northwestern State for the sixth time in program history on Saturday at 11 a.m., leading the all-time series 6-0 while earning a sweep during their last meeting in 2012. TU will wrap up non-conference play for the season against at 7 p.m. against Louisiana Tech.

Louisiana Tech vs. Northwestern State – 3 p.m.
Tulsa vs. Oral Roberts – 7 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 17
Louisiana Tech vs. Oral Roberts – 9 a.m.
Tulsa vs. Northwestern State – 11 a.m.
Northwestern State vs. Oral Roberts – 5 p.m.
Tulsa vs. Louisiana Tech – 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT…
Tulsa earned their second tournament title in as many weeks, going 3-0 at the A-State Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark. on Sept 9-10. The Hurricane swept UT-Martin on Friday morning before defeating Central Arkansas in four sets to set up the tournament-deciding match on Saturday with host Arkansas State. Tulsa held off a push from the Red Wolves in the second set on their way to completing the sweep in a match in which all three sets were decided by two points. Brooke Berryhill was named the MVP of the tournament while Trinity Alualu was named to the all-tournament team.
DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE…
Tulsa has been dominant on defense this season, ranking second nationally in digs per set with 18.68 while holding their opponents to a .147 hitting percentage, ranking 26th nationally. The Hurricane racked up 181 digs in 10 sets over the weekend at the A-State Invitational for an average of 18.10 digs per set. Individually, senior libero Brooke Berryhill ranks 26th nationally in digs per set with 5.12, totaling 174 on the season.
HOT START…
The Hurricane matched their best start to a season (8-1 overall) since the 2008 squad won eight out of their first nine matches before finishing the season 22-11. Tulsa has won six straight matches while posting an 18-4 record over their last 22 sets on their way to back-to-back week tournament titles.
