The Tulsa rowing team will open the 2017 fall campaign at the Head of the Oklahoma on Saturday and Sunday, October 7-8, on the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Â
The Golden Hurricane will race 20 boats in six different races, including the Open 1x, Open 2-, Open 4+, Open 4x, Collegiate 4+ and Collegiate 8+. The Collegiate 4+ and Collegiate 8+ races will take place on Saturday with boats advancing the OG&E Night Sprints, while the remaining races will be held on Sunday.
Â
"We are looking forward to getting to race in Oklahoma City this weekend," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "It's been a solid month of steady state work and the student-athletes are looking forward to lining up live and seeing what they can do with it. We've been really focused on changing some technical aspects of our stroke that we want to see emphasized in racing so this is a chance to make that happen.  The OG&E Night Sprints are also always a lot of fun. It's a time where the athletes get to race under the stadium lights and see how quickly they go over 500-meters. It's rare that most people get to see the Collegiate 8+'s in that atmosphere of speed so it's awesome to have Tulsa athletes making that happen."
