Women's Tennis Defeats In-State Rival Oklahoma 4-1

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Tulsa Women's Tennis team earned their ninth win of the season on Saturday afternoon as they defeated in-state rival Oklahoma 4-1 on the road at the Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion.
 
Tulsa won doubles matches at No. 2 and No. 3 to jump out to a 1-0 lead over Oklahoma on 6-4 wins by #59 Rongrong Leenabanchong and Martha Matoula along with Mahitha Dadireddy and Marcelina Cichon.
 
In singles play, Matoula picked up her 18th singles victory of the season in a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Oklahoma's Julie Byrne to put Tulsa ahead 2-0 in the dual.
 
Ksenia Laskutova fell to OU's No. 16-ranked Lily Miyazaki as the Sooners picked up their lone point of the day. Laskutova held strong in the opening set, but lost 6-4 before a 6-0 second set.
 
Leenabanchong put Tulsa within one point of sealing the win against Mimi Fotopoulos, winning the first set 6-1 before taking the second 6-3.
 
Cichon sealed the win for the Hurricane at the No. 6 spot in the lineup with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Ann Selim.
 
Tulsa will take a break from dual play next weekend when they travel to Montgomery, Ala. for the Blue & Gray Invite on Feb. 24-25.
