ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Golden Hurricane (5-1) defeated Brown (1-1), 4-0 in the opening round of the ITA Kick-Off at the Varsity Tennis Center at Michigan. Tulsa collected the doubles point as well as three singles match victories, led by Ksenia Laskutova and Martina Okalova.

Okalova and Vera Ploner faced Maddie Stearns and Courtney Kowalsky in the No. 2 doubles match. Okalova and Ploner ran away with the match, as they won 6-1. In the No. 3 doubles match, Tamara Kupkova paired with Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg knocked off Juliana Simon and Semi Oloko, 6-4. After doubles action Tulsa, led 1-0.

???????Laskutova won the first set against Alyza Benotto, 6-0, at the No. 1 singles position. Laskutova breezed through the second set, 6-1, as she put the Hurricane on top, 2-0, for the match.

In the No. 2 singles match, the No. 122 ranked Okalova took the first set against Stearns, 6-1. Okalova went on to win the second set, 6-3, and put Tulsa up, 3-0.

Van Rensburg clinched the match for the Golden Hurricane as she defeated Katie Ta, in the No. 6 singles match. Van Rensburg took the first stanza, 6-4, before she won the second set by the same score, 6-4.

With the victory, Tulsa improves to 5-1 on the season. The Golden Hurricane returns to action Sunday, Jan. 28, as it battles the No. 10 ranked Michigan Wolverines. First serves are scheduled for noon, with the winner gaining an entry to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
