Tulsa Men’s Tennis Shines on First Day of Qualifying Round

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa men's tennis squad picked up three singles wins and a doubles victory on day one of the qualifying round at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The reigning conference Freshman of the Year Joshua Goodger had a hot start to the day, defeating Eric Rutledge of Rice, 6-4, 6-4. In 2017, Goodger battled through the ITA All-American qualifying round, earning a spot in the main draw.
Sophomore Boriss Kamdem picked up where Goodger left off, taking down Kawika Lam of Washington, 6-1, 6-4. The Belgium native started the match strong, taking the first four games of the match and defeating Lam in a back-and-forth set two.
Newcomer Daniel Siddall also made his mark, quickly dispatching of Alex Ribeiro (Virginia Tech), 6-4, 6-1. Siddall found himself down 4-3 in the first set, but rallied off three-straight games to take the set. His first-frame momentum allowed him to control the serves and clinch the match in the second set.
In the first of two doubles matches of the day for the Golden Hurricane, the tandem of Majed Kilani and Kody Pearson swiftly took down Tadas Babelis and Michael Ogden of NC State, 6-3, 6-4.
Later in the evening, Kilani/Pearson squared off with Fabian Fallert and Finn Reynolds (Ole Miss). The standout Tulsa duo struggled to find its rhythm in the match, falling to the Ole Miss tandem, 6-1, 6-1.
Day two of the qualifying round is set to begin tomorrow morning with times TBA, as the Hurricane athletes look to earn their spots in the main draw, scheduled to kick off Thursday, Oct. 4.
