Tulsa Volleyball Records Sweep Over Houston

HOUSTON, Texas – The University of Tulsa volleyball team (14-6, 6-2) posted its seventh sweep of 2018 in a road conference victory over Houston (13-10, 0-8) on Friday.
The straight-set victory also marks the first road sweep in American Athletic Conference play of 2018 for the Golden Hurricane.
In the first set, Tulsa and Houston battled in a back-and-forth frame, with TU managing to take set one, 25-23. The Golden Hurricane racked up three service aces in the stanza, while Rachel Moore paced the team with five kills.
The second set played out similarly to the first, as Tulsa held on to clinch set two, 25-22. The team tallied 16 kills in the frame, while DS/L Taylor Horsfall bolstered the back line defensively, posting a team-high eight digs in the stanza.
TU took hold of the third and final frame early, securing the set and match, 25-18. Senior Emily Thorson proved to be the deciding factor offensively late in the match, nailing five kills in the frame on 12 swings.
As a team, Tulsa racked up 46 kills on a solid .240 hitting percentage, to go along with seven service aces. Moore managed her seventh double-double of the season in the match, accumulating 10 kills and 12 digs, while Callie Cook added nine kills on a remarkable .533 clip.
Head coach Ryan Wills' squad stays in Texas this weekend, as it's scheduled for another conference match on the road at SMU (6-11, 3-4) on Oct. 21 in Dallas, Texas.
