Tulsa Takes Down NSU RiverHawks in Exhibition, 95-60

TULSA, Okla. –– Tulsa used a balanced scoring attack for a 95-60 win Friday night against the Northeastern State RiverHawks in exhibition action at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Junior Curran Scott and sophomore Simon Falokun came off the bench to lead the Golden Hurricane in scoring with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Sophomore Darien Jackson followed in the scoring column with nine points, while six Hurricane players –– Martins Igbanu, DaQuan Jeffries, Sterling Taplin, Zeke Moore, Chris Barnes and Elijah Joiner –– each added eight points. Jackson and Jeriah Horne each had a game-high eight rebounds for the Hurricane.
Tulsa improved its overall exhibition record to 67-2, winning its 38th consecutive exhibition contest, including an 8-0 record for head coach Frank Haith.
The Hurricane started the game on a 10-0 run and led at halftime by 27 points, 41-28.
Tulsa's run to start the game was keyed by two Zeke Moore three-pointers. The Hurricane increased that lead to 21-3 by the 12-minute mark and was ahead 30-6 with just under eight minutes left in the first half.
Taplin knocked down two treys in the final 1:27 of the first half to give the Hurricane its halftime cushion.
Tulsa opened the second half with another 10-0 run to increase its lead to 58-21 in the first four minutes. The Hurricane kept the lead above 30 points from that point on, and reached 40 points at 78-38 on a Moore free throw with 9:33 remaining. Tulsa reached the 40-point margin three more times in the final nine minutes.
Eleven players scored in the game for Tulsa, all getting into the scoring column in the first half. For the game, the Hurricane converted 53-percent of its field goals. Tulsa out-rebounded NSU 47-36, dished out 16 assists and had nine blocked shots, led by Jefferies' five blocks.
NSU's D'Angelo Jackson was the game-high scorer with 17 points.
Tulsa opens the regular season next Tuesday, Nov. 6, with a 7:00 p.m. game against Alcorn State at the Reynolds Center.
