Match Notes
TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa volleyball squad heads into the postseason for the first time since 2013 this week, as it heads to the Lonestar State for the first and second rounds of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, scheduled for Nov. 29-30 in Denton, Texas.
The opening round pits the Golden Hurricane (19-11, 11-7) against the North Texas Mean Green (17-16, 11-3 C-USA) on Thursday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. CT on the Mean Green's home court in Denton, Texas.
Tulsa owns a 15-7 record all-time against UNT, with the last matchup between the teams on Sept. 26 this season. In a midweek non-conference matchup, the Golden Hurricane took down North Texas in a five-set thriller, 3-2, inside the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
In the regular season, Tulsa finished fourth in the American Athletic Conference, boasting an 19-11 overall record and a 11-7 mark in conference play. The 19-11 regular season record is the second-best mark in Wills' five seasons at the helm of the Golden Hurricane.
The women's NIVC is a single-elimination event, with all matches played at sites of host schools. The event debuted in 1989 with 20 teams, in response to demand for another postseason opportunity within the sport. This year's event will feature 32 teams in the single-elimination bracket.
The women's NIVC tournament will mark the first postseason action for Wills' squad in his tenure, along with the first time TU will play past the regular season since the C-USA Championship in 2013. With a win, Tulsa will face the winner of Wichita State (13-17, 8-10) and Central Arkansas (26-6, 14-2 Southland) on Friday, Nov. 30, at 5:30 p.m. CT in Denton, Texas.
