Tulsa Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Strong Showing at Red and Blue Challenge

DALLAS, Texas – The University of Tulsa women's tennis squad completed its appearance at the Red and Blue Challenge, hosted by SMU, racking up four singles victories on the final day in Texas.
 
The Golden Hurricane squared off with Wyoming in singles on the third day at SMU. Shura Poppe earned Tulsa's first singles victory, taking down Tessa van Der Ploeg with ease, 6-2, 6-2. Martha Matoula would also secure a win over Maria Oreshkina, 4-1 ret.
 
Two newcomers would earn Tulsa's other two singles victories on the day. Marina Davtyan took down Mihaela Kaftanova, 6-4, 7-6(4). To conclude singles play, Megan Hopton earned a hard-fought victory over Ida Krause, 6-4, 6-7, 10-4.
 
As a team, the Golden Hurricane boasted a 16-5 record in singles for the round-robin tournament, to go along with a 5-4 mark in doubles.
 
Up next, the tandem of Vera Ploner and Martina Okalova travels to Surprise, Arizona, for the ITA National Fall Championships from Nov. 7-11. The rest of the squad is scheduled to compete at the ITF 25K in Norman, Oklahoma, from Nov. 10-14.
