Tulsa Women’s Tennis Ends Season Ranked Among Top 20

Players Earn Top-100 Ranking for Singles and Doubles
TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's women's tennis team finished the season ranked No. 17 in the final United States Tennis Association (USTA) poll and No. 19 in the final International Tennis Association (ITA) poll, it was announced today. These rankings come after a season where the Golden Hurricane made it to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
In addition, American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Ksenia Laskutova, finished at the No. 60 spot in the ITA singles rankings, while Martina Okalova ranked at No. 80. Both players earned all-conference honors this past season. The doubles pair of Laskutova and Martha Matoula earned a spot in the ITA doubles rankings, coming in at No. 38.
On their way to the No. 38 ranking, Laskutova and Matoula defeated the two teams that played for the 2018 NCAA Doubles Championship, defeating national runners-up team of Oklahoma State's Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco and defeating the NCAA Champion doubles team from LSU, Jessica Golovin and Eden Richardson. Laskutova and Matoula defeated each of those teams in the first two rounds of the NCAA Team Championship.
Tulsa completed the season with an overall 23-6 record, including six wins coming against top-35 team. Among those top-35 wins was a 4-2 victory over 16th-ranked Baylor during one of Tulsa's two seven-match winning streaks. The Hurricane concluded the postseason with a record of 5-1, which included an American Athletic Conference Championship and two NCAA tournament victories.
At the 2018 NCAA Championship, Tulsa defeated No. 34 LSU in the first round and followed that with a win against No. 8 national seed Oklahoma State, securing a berth into the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.
Laskutova finished the season with a singles record of 24-8 overall and 18-5 in dual matches at the No. 1 position. Okalova finished right behind her with an overall mark of 21-8 and a 14-5 record in dual matches at the No. 2 position.
The doubles team of Laskutova and Matoula had an overall record of 24-10 at the No. 1 position for the Hurricane.
