Tulsa Travels to Cincinnati for the American Outdoor Championships

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa track & field team will be on the road this weekend for the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championships. The meet starts Friday, May 11, at Gettler Stadium on the campus of Cincinnati and concludes on Sunday, May 13.
Friday's events start at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer throw. The men's decathlon opens the multi events on Friday, with the 100-meters at 12:30 p.m. The women's heptathlon starts at 1 p.m. with the 100-meter hurdles. At 6 p.m. on Friday, the prelims of the women's 800-meters will be the first track event.
Grey Howard and Robert Tully have put forth a solid effort in the 800-meters this season. Howard posted the conference's second-fastest time of 1:49.02, while Tully's time of 1:49.98 is the fourth-best mark. At last year's outdoor championships, Howard and Tully finished third and fourth, respectively. The men's 800-meter prelims will take place at 6:20 p.m.
Kiarra Reed's time of 59.70 in the 400-meter hurdles is the third best in the conference. The prelims of the women's 400-meter hurdles are scheduled for a 7:20 p.m. start time on Friday.
Henry Visser broke the Tulsa program record with a time of 51.77 in the 400-meter hurdles. Visser has the league's fourth-fastest mark. The men's 400-meter prelims are scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time.
Caitlin Klopfer takes to the track for the 10,000-meters. Klopfer recorded the conference's fourth-fastest time, with a mark of 43:55.89. The women's 10,000-meters will be the first track event final of the 2018 championships and is scheduled for a 7:50 p.m. start.
Ben Preisner along with Adam Roderique look to compete for the top spot in the 10,000-meters. Preisner currently holds the fastest time in the conference at 29:08.17, while Roderique, who was the runner-up last year, has the fourth fastest time of 29:52.13. The men's 10,000-meters will be the final event on Friday and is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m.
Mark Middleton will look to improve on a sixth-place finish at last year's championship in the 1,500-meters. Middleton's time of 3:47.99 is the fourth best in the league. The prelims of the men's 1,500-meters are scheduled for 5:55 p.m. on Saturday.
Aaliyah Birmingham will be on the track for the women's 400-meter prelims. Birmingham notched a mark of 54.10, which is the fourth-best time in the conference this season. The prelims are scheduled for 6:10 p.m.
Ashley Barnes posted the league's second-fastest time, 10:31.41, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The women's 3,000-meter steeplechase is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. on Saturday.
Preisner has the third-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a mark of 8:56.22. He finished third at last season's conference meet. The men's 3,000-meter steeplechase will follow the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The group of Visser, Howard, Zachary Adee, and Bailey Stewart has combined for the third-best time in the men's 4x400-meter relay. They ran a time of 3:12.69. The men's relay is scheduled for a 4:35 p.m. start time on Sunday.
