Golden Hurricane Sweeps Tulane to Stay Perfect at Home

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball team (9-4, 2-0) stayed hot at home, sweeping Tulane (12-5, 0-2), 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 26-24), on Sunday in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
With the victory, the Golden Hurricane improves to 5-0 on its home court. The 5-0 home record to start the season is the best under head coach Ryan Wills' tenure, and the best home start for the program since 2010.
Tulsa started strong in the first frame, recording a 75 percent sideout percentage. Taylor Horsfall reinforced the back line, adding six digs in the stanza. Emily Thorson paced TU in kills, putting down six and adding a service ace. Tulsa took the set, 25-20.
In set two, Maggie Hembree continued her hot streak, tallying four kills on a lofty .800 hitting percentage. Mariah Pardo handled setting duties, recording 11 assists in the stanza. Albeit closer, TU clinched the frame, 25-22.
The third frame played out to be a back-and-forth battle the entire way, with the Hurricane clinching the match on a Tulane attacking error, 26-24. Rachel Moore proved to be the deciding factor in the third set, leading Tulsa in the frame with five kills.
The Golden Hurricane tallied 47 kills in the victory, to go along with 50 digs and 11 blocks. Thorson, Hembree and Moore all recorded double-digit kills in the win, while Pardo made her presence felt by racking up 36 assists.
Tulsa continues its four-match homestand on Wednesday, hosting North Texas on Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m. CT in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
